Ramuth Magalutcheemee (Vanessa) is a Senior Clinical Scientist (Virology) at the Virology Department, Central Health Laboratory, Ministry of Health and Wellness, Mauritius, which hosts the National Influenza Centre. She holds a BSc in Biomedical Science and an MSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology and is currently completing her PhD in Medical Virology at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.
Her research focuses on the epidemiology and genetic characterization of influenza viruses. She played a key role in establishing genomic surveillance in Mauritius during the COVID-19 pandemic and contributes to regional surveillance activities through WHO-GISRS and collaborative networks working on arbovirus surveillance.
Ramuth collaborates with partners including WHO, Africa CDC, CLIMADE-Africa, IVI and served as an external contributor and reviewer for the WHO guidance on integrated sentinel surveillance of influenza and other respiratory viruses within GISRS (2024).
Through her work, she contributes to strengthening genomic epidemiology and laboratory capacity for respiratory and emerging viruses in the African region
